About Active Marin

Active Marin Physical Therapy embraces each individual’s power to make a change and to recover to their fullest potential. Whether your goal is to run a marathon, recover from surgery, compete at the highest level in your sport, dance freely or walk painlessly, at Active Marin Physical Therapy we support your goals and your body’s ability to heal.

We are a group of academically-trained physical therapists specializing in orthopedic sports medicine and comprehensive care that fits into patient’s busy schedules. We provide the highest quality, individualized physical therapy Marin has to offer. We do not use aides or assistants. Our experienced therapists provide high-quality, one-in-one care. All of our therapists actively pursue continued education with advanced coursework academic studies.

We’re conveniently located in Mill Valley on Miller Avenue, five minutes from the freeway and downtown Mill Valley. We have a parking lot behind the building as well as ample street parking. Cindy Lewton Dehan, MSPT

Owner & Physical Therapist

Cindy has a lifetime love of exercise, movement and sports. Cindy grew up competing in gymnastics and skiing, and she later became an All American diver. Her experience in sports led her to pursue a career in physical therapy. Cindy graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Colorado and received her Master of Science and Physical Therapy from the University of California, San Francisco in 1997. She has spent her career working in sports medicine and orthopedics. Cindy works with various Bay area dance schools helping to promote health and wellness. Cindy has a passion for continued learning and has many years of advanced level orthopedic, manual and osteopathic coursework. She is trained in Active Release Technique. Cindy’s goal is to help people realize their greatest potential and to facilitate healing in a positive, motivating environment

Laura Kelley PT, DPT

Physical Therapist
Laura Reed earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from George Washington University and completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. Laura specializes in an array of orthopedic and neurologic conditions, with a specific emphasis on complex and unique cases. She has a background in sports orthopedic injuries, TMJ/jaw pain, hypermobility and EDS, SI joint pain and neurological dysfunction. She practices an evidence based, patient-centered approach to treatment with a strong emphasis on manual interventions and neuromuscular retraining. Laura specializes in myofascial release, Active Release Technique (ART) and Graston. When not treating patients, she loves hiking with her dog, skiing, traveling as well as playing lacrosse and golf.

Kelly graduated from Sargent college in Boston with a specialization in sports medicine and pediatrics. Kelly then attended Boston College PT school. She interned at the Boston Ballet and Boston University’s winter sports athletic training center. After graduating, Kelly moved to Honolulu where she worked at a sports medicine clinic for triathletes and other high level athletes. Kelly has a wide ranging experience in orthopedics, geriatrics, and pediatrics; and has advanced training in treatment of the hand. After work, Kelly enjoys spending time with her family, quilting, cooking, tennis, learning to play the violin, singing, sketching by the ocean, horseback riding, trail running, and reading.

Luis graduated from California State University, Chico where he earned his Bachelors in Health Science Administration. He found passion in leadership & team building and hopes to pursue his masters in Health Administration. His goal is to incorporate the wealth of knowledge and customer service that he has acquired to equip the team and to best serve the patients. Luis, a Bay Area Native found his way back to the bay area and currently resides in beautiful Sausalito. When he is not at work, he is exploring trails, catching a flight, or simply binge-watching Netflix with his pups. ¡Se Habla Español !

Ming earned his Doctorate In Physical therapy from StonyBrookUniversity, complemented by a Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences & Public Health from the University of Rochester. Hailing from Brooklyn, New York City, Ming’s upbringing instilled in him a deep appreciation for diverse communities and the importance of individualized care. With clinical experience in orthopedics, sports rehab, acute/subacute rehab, and neurological rehab, Ming has honed his skills in providing exceptional care to individuals of all ages. His previous role as a physical therapist in the vibrant NYC has equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of diverse patient needs and a commitment to fostering meaningful connections. During his time at the University of Rochester, Ming played offensive line for the varsity football team and participated in intramural sports such as basketball and flag football. Outside of his professional endeavors, Ming consistently engages in weightlifting, hiking, and fishing, finding solace and inspiration in the great outdoors.

Cynthia Koch, DPT, eryt500

Dr. Cynthia, a soulful blend of healing, music, movement and maple syrup! Cynthia is our favorite Canadian member of Active Marin PT. She graduated from the University of Waterloo with a bachelor’s in health science & gerontology and a double minor in microbiology and communications. She earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Samuel Merritt University in Oakland. Cynthia has a particular interest in mind-body connection, balance, breath, backs and feet! She is an ERYT-500 and RPYT certified Yoga teacher in San Francisco, and has been leading classes, private lessons and injury prevention workshops alongside an orthopedic surgeon for over 10 years. We encourage you to join one of her accessible yoga classes for all bodies (stiff, injured and flexible!) right here at Active Marin PT. Cynthia is a respected educator and mentor for many yoga teachers and young physical therapists and believes in bringing a holistic integration and empowering combination of yoga and therapy into every treatment, along with a little bit of la-la-la-love. When not in the office, you will find Cynthia performing as a vocalist with a bright blue hairdo in her ten-piece Motown soul-band Luvbomb, or most recently touring the USA with an Orchestral rendition of Dr. Dre’s 2001 The Chronic album. She enjoys hiking the Dipsea trail and Mount Tam as well as a yearly trek to the Himalayas, and playing with her Godson Axel, a four-year-old Jack Russell Terrier.

Sam graduated from UCSF/SFSU with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy and from UC Davis with his Bachelor’s of Science in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior. With clinical experience in a variety of settings, including sports medicine, acute care, and orthopedics, Sam works with a diverse group of patients to maximize function, instill confidence, and promote the benefits of lifelong movement and exercise. Sam has a love for endurance sports, with experience as a competitive runner in high school and as a nationally-ranked collegiate cyclist during his time at UC Davis. During his free time, Sam enjoys riding up and down Mt. Tam on either his road or mountain bike, planning new backpacking trips, and spoiling his two cats with new toys and their favorite treats. Sam’s favorite part of being a physical therapist is the opportunity to create meaningful connections through collaboration with patients as they work to return to the activities that they enjoy most.

Nikki Yamamoto, DPT

Physical Therapist
Nikki graduated with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from USC and her Bachelor’s of Physiological Science from UCLA (Go Bruins!). She grew up competing in acrobatic gymnastics, and her experience with sports and injuries led her to pursue a career in physical therapy. She has experience working with NCAA teams, including the UCLA women’s tennis team and gymnastics team. She aims to empower individuals to actively participate in their rehabilitation journey for long-term health and functionality. When she’s not in the clinic, she can be found reading, enjoying San Francisco parks with her friends, and dancing.
