Headaches

Many headache sufferers have tried heat, ice, topical ointments, and medication, but few know that physical therapy can help with headaches. Often, headaches result from structural or soft tissue dysfunctions affecting the neck. Learning correct postures specific to your sleep, work, and driving environments can help reduce headache symptoms. A physical therapist will assess and identify the underlying cause of your headaches, focusing treatment on that area. By addressing the actual dysfunction, rather than just the symptoms, headaches can be reduced long-term.

Headaches are classified as either primary or secondary. Primary headaches occur when the headache itself is the disorder, while secondary headaches result from another condition such as a stroke, infection, brain tumor, or head injury. Physical therapy for headaches can help reduce medication intake, decrease pain severity, frequency, and duration, and increase neck range of motion.
